Under-21s Down To Olympic |
Sunday 16th Aug, 2009The Brisbane Strikers Under-21s stumbled at the final hurdle in their league campaign tonight, going down 0-3 to Olympic FC at Goodwin Park.
The loss means the Strikers will now have to sweat over the result of the Redlands City Devils v QAS fixture on Wednesday night. A draw for the Devils would be enough to see them clinch the Under-21s championship, while a loss would mean the honour would go to the Strikers.
Strikers coach Darren Sime had no complaints about either the result tonight or his players’ efforts.
“Olympic played well. They had nothing to play for, which probably meant they were relaxed, and they knocked the ball around well”, said Sime.
“I think the occasion might have got the better of some of our boys. The majority were trying their hearts out, but it was just not working for them. Everyone is still learning the game, and this was a great learning experience for them.
“We knew we had to win to put pressure on Redlands. We are still in with a chance, but regardless of the result on Wednesday our focus is on the finals now”.
