Wednesday 19th Aug, 2009Wednesday night, 19 August has proved to be a night of mixed fortunes for the Brisbane Strikers.
At Mallawa Drive, Palm Beach the Strikers’ senior squad gave a Gold Coast United selection the run-around, posting a resounding 6-0 victory over the A-League club with a display rated by captain Matt Smith as “very impressive all-round’. Luke Morley continued his hot scoring streak by putting four away, while Gareth Musson and Steve Unsworth netted the others.
Meanwhile, the Brisbane Strikers Under-21s went within a whisker of taking out the championship in their competition, although they were not in action. The Redlands City Devils needed a point from their last fixture, against the QAS, to climb above the Strikers and claim the championship. However, the QAS held a 1-0 lead until, with only thirty seconds remaining on the clock, the Devils grabbed a priceless equaliser to deny Darren Sime’s team the trophy.
